Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK appoints transition committee

Answering the clarion call and in response to the widespread outcry of Ndigbo in the UK over the numerous irregularities that marred the recent Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK supposed election held on 20th of November 2021, the General House comprising of Ndigbo in the UK under the umbrella of Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK, rising from a duly convened and constituted meeting in London on Saturday, 11 December 2021 resolved as follows:

  1. The General House acknowledges the widespread outcry of Ndigbo in the UK and take cognisance of the numerous irregularities that marred the Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK 20 November 2021 purported election.

  1. The General House adopts in its entirety, the independent opinion and advice of the Forum for the Advancement of Igbo Race – ‘FAIR’ (copy available on request), over the numerous irregularities that flawed the purported election as detailed in the referenced document.

  1. The General House notes specifically that contrary to the constitution of Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK, only 2 delegates were allowed to vote from preselected Ohanaeze Affiliate Membership Organisations (AMOs), clearly disenfranchising other delegates on trumped up allegations that the AMOs are splinter groups of State Unions.

  1. Taking cognisance of these irregularities, the General House unanimously agrees that the Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK purported election of 20 November 2021 is repugnant to the constitution and convention of Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK and Worldwide, as well as repugnant to the culture of Ndigbo which has recently been adjudged to be the cradle of democracy.

  1. The General House unanimously declared the Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK purported election of 20 November unconstitutional, null and void. Consequently, the following 5 man Transition Committee was immediately inaugurated by the General House to manage the affairs of Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK for an interim period of 3 months, with a mandate to conduct a fresh and credible election:

  1. Dr Azuka Benson - Chairman
  2. Dr Bennet Onwuzurike - Secretary
  3. Chief Charles Anyanwu - Member
  4. Mazi Chris Dike - Member
  5. Mazi Uche Kay – Member

  1. The General House resolved and mandate that all properties of Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK must be handed over to the Transition Committee with immediate effect.

  1. The General House recognises the support of Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK Women Wing and the Youth Wing and urge both wings to continue to give their unalloyed cooperation and loyalty to the Transition Committee of the parent body – Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK.

  1. The General House acknowledges and emphasises that Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK as a designated Diaspora chapter similar to the Nigerian state structure of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, is a non-partisan and non-sectarian pan-Igbo socio-cultural organisation designed to provide a platform, where Ndigbo within and outside Nigeria may come together for the purpose of nurturing better understanding and harmonious relations amongst themselves and with other ethnic groups in Nigeria, as well as with all communities wherever they reside.

  1. The General House of Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK pledge its full support to the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide and urges them to accord the Transition Committee of Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK, all necessary support and advice in our quest to rebuild and reposition Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK as a reckoning force for progress in the global comity of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.
